You’re cordially invited to the next Valley VOTE meeting, via Zoom, on Monday, September 20, 2021, at 7:00 p.m. Our topic is the state government’s decision to abolish single-family zoning and allow multi-family housing on any single-family parcel in the state.
Two bills that could densify housing in every neighborhood, Senate Bill 9 and Senate Bill 10, have now been signed by Gov. Gavin Newsom. But his signature may not be the last word on the subject, and our special guest speaker on September 20 will explain why.

Redondo Beach Mayor Bill Brand is the principal author and proponent of a new ballot initiative that has been filed with the attorney general. The Californians for Community Planning Initiative would stop centralized zoning from Sacramento and protect single-family neighborhoods throughout the state. Mayor Brand will speak about this important effort and explain how you can get involved. Check out the website at CommunitiesForChoice.org.

Bill Brand has been mayor of Redondo Beach since 2017 after serving two terms on the City Council. He holds an MBA in Finance from USC and a Bachelor of Science degree in Chemical Engineering from Cal State University Long Beach. He’s a life-long South Bay resident and avid surfer. He has been an outspoken activist against the legislative assault on single-family zoning that has been coming out of Sacramento year after year.

This will be an important meeting on a subject that could affect your home and the density of your neighborhood.
